530B (5BK) Grapple Skidders Equipped With Enclosed Rollover Protective Structures (ROPS)The enclosed ROPS used on the machines listed use glass for the side and rear windows, but a scratch and ultra-violet resistant "plastic" for the windshield.
There have been several reports of windshield scratching which were thought to be due to soft material. However, the material used in these windshields is the best non-glass material which can be used, and the material has been checked and meets all specified requirements.
The windshield scratching is due to incorrect cleaning methods, and special care is required to prevent hair line scratches or deep gouges. These windshields should not be wiped off with dry paper towels or a dry cloth, and the type of cleaners used need to be carefully selected.
For normal dirt removal, wash the windshield with a solution of mild soap or detergent (such as dish washing liquid), and use plenty of water. Rinse well with clean water. To prevent spotting, dry thoroughly with a clean chamois, or a clean moist cellulose sponge.
For spot or grease removal, do NOT scrub with abrasives or use brushes, scraper blades, or sharp objects. Do NOT use gasoline, benzine, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, fire extinguisher fluid, anti-ice fluid, lacquer thinner, acids, or alkali cleaners. It is also recommended to avoid cleaning the windshield in the hot sun or at elevated temperatures.
It is suggested that naptha, isopropyl alcohol, butylcellusolve, or an ammonia-based window cleaner be used to remove paints, marking pen inks, grease, etc. To remove labels, stickers, or other adhesives, use kerosene, naptha, or petroleum spirits. If any of these cleaning agents are used, be sure and thoroughly wash the windshield with soap and water, and rinse with clean water to remove any material residue. Dry the windshield as necessary with a clean chamois, or a clean moist cellulose sponge.
To minimize hairline scratches, use a mild automotive polish or a plastic polish or glazing product. It is also recommended to follow the polish manufacturers instructions precisely. If in doubt about the abrasive content of the polish, it is suggested to first test a small area of the windshield which will not obstruct visibility.
