Illustration 1. Location of the new piston and seal assemblies.Adaptable To: The new 9T8229 Piston Assembly and new 8C9164 Seal Assembly, when used together, are direct replacements for the former 9T3935 Piston Assembly and former 5J7234 Seal Assembly in the 9T0140 Bulldozer Lift Cylinder Group on D8N Tractors. The new 9T8231 Piston Assembly and new 8T0763 Seal Assembly, when used together, are direct replacements for the former 3G8193 Piston Assembly and former 5J7234 Seal Assembly in the 3G8537 and 9T2860 Bulldozer Lift Cylinder Groups on D8L and D9N Tractors.
The outside diameters of the former piston assemblies can be modified as shown in Illustration 2 and the chart to provide increased clearance. Install the new 8C9164 Seal Assembly on the modified 9T3935 Piston Assembly. Install the new 8T0763 Seal Assembly on the modified 3G8193 Piston Assembly. Use the original wear ring from the unmodified piston assembly.
