Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position and remove the key. Turn all switches to the OFF position.
Disconnect the "-" battery cable from the starter motor. Disconnect the "-" battery cable from the battery negative terminal and remove the cable.
Disconnect the "+" battery cable from the battery positive terminal. Disconnect the "+" battery cable from the starter motor solenoid and remove the cable.
Perform the necessary repairs. Replace the cable or the battery, as needed.
Connect one end of the "+" battery cable to the solenoid on the starter motor and the other end to the battery positive terminal.
Connect one end of the "-" battery cable to the starter motor and the other end to the battery negative terminal.
Replace the engine start switch key.
