BRACKET AS 2986590 - Caterpillar

start by: a) remove water pumpb) remove alternatorc) remove belt tightener (earlier machines only)d) remove fan drivee) remove crankshaft front seal and wear sleevef) remove front support This operation was done on an earlier machine. 1. Remove alternator bracket (1).2. Fasten a hoist to the front of the engine. Lift the front of the engine until the weight of it is off of tooling (A).3. Remove the bolts that hold the oil pan to the timing gear cover.
Be extra careful not to cause damage to the oil pan and oil pan plate gaskets. If the gaskets are damaged, make a replacement of the gaskets. See REMOVE AND INSTALL OIL PAN and/or REMOVE AND INSTALL OIL PAN PLATE.
4. Loosen the other bolts that hold the oil pan to the engine. Put spacers (2) between the oil pan and oil pan plate as shown. Lower the engine on to tooling (A).5. Remove trunnion (3) from the timing gear cover. 6. Remove covers (4) and (5) from the left rear side of the timing gear cover.7. Remove the bolts and nuts that hold the timing gear cover to the timing gear plate. 8. Remove timing gear cover (6).9. Remove the old gasket from the contact surfaces of the timing gear cover and plate.Install Timing Gear Cover
This operation was done on an earlier machine.1. Install a new gasket on the timing gear plate. Cut the gasket even with the bottom face of the cylinder block. Put 5H2471 Gasket Cement on the bottom of the gasket where the gasket makes contact with the gasket for the oil pan plate. 2. Put timing gear cover (1) in position on the timing gear plate and install the bolts and nuts that hold it in place. 3. Put trunnion (2) and the O-ring seal in position on the timing gear cover and install the bolts that hold it. 4. Install covers (3) and (4) on the left rear side of the timing gear cover.5. Fasten a hoist to the front of the engine. Lift the engine until the weight of it is off of tooling (A).6. Remove the spacers between the oil pan and oil pan plate. Tighten the bolts that hold the oil pan in position.7. Install the bolts that hold the oil to the timing gear cover. Lower the engine back on to tooling (A). 8.
