(C)     30 degrees     45 degrees    An incorrect chamfer has been discovered on the manifolds of rotating clutches in the 432 mm (17 inch) transmissions that are used in the above listed machines. The incorrect chamfer allows the rotating seal to ride on the outside of the bore with very little support. The incorrect chamfer causes accelerated wear of the clutch seals. Refer to Illustration 1 and Table 1.The following conditions are symptoms for this problem when machine is operating with clutch 5 engaged.
Loss of torque
Overheating of the torque converter
Clutch 5 eventually begins to slip.Check the lubrication pressure and the pressure on clutch 5 in order to diagnose this problem. If the lubrication pressure drops below 69 kPa (10 psi) at high idle, get in touch with the Dealer Solution Network. If the clutch pressure is out of the specification, get in touch with the Dealer Solution Network.This problem is most noticeable on the 980H machine with the heavy-duty transmission.The following manifolds are affected:

6T-6051 Manifold
9W-8597 Manifold Solution
A design change has been made to the listed manifolds. The new design has shortened the depth of the chamfer. This design will eliminate the rotating seal from riding on the outside of the bore with very little support. Refer to Illustration 1 and Table 1. This new design is readily available as a replacement part.
