Component Code(s) 1304, 1315SUBJECT: 3408E LOW ENGINE LUBE OIL PRESSURE AS ENGINE SPEED INCREASES
PROBLEM:
Low engine oil pressure at engine speeds above low idle have been reported by some dealers with ABK and ACL prefix TTT D9R?s that are powered with the 3408E 5XD serial number engine. The engine lube oil pressure drops and causes low oil pressure warnings as engine speed increases above 1500 RPM.
SOLUTION:
If the above listed engine has a complaint of low engine oil pressure at engine speeds above low idle, verify, and document the engine oil pressure with warm oil at 700, 1000, 1300, 1600, 1900, and 2100 engine rpm. If you observe oil pressure that is normal at low engine speeds, but then drops off or does not increase to 50-65 psi before 1600 engine rpm is reached, a malfunctioning oil pump pressure relief valve may be the cause. The dealers reporting this problem have repaired their machines by replacing the engine oil pump with the current serviced engine oil pump part number (New:202-3575, Reman: 10R1088). Inspect oil crossover tube joints and seals for looseness or wear, and repair as required. The 202-3575 D9R oil pump has been placed on automatic parts recall. In the event this oil pump would require changing due to low oil pressure, please return to the Peoria Claims room so engineering can examine the oil pump to help determine the root cause. If a pump is returned for evaluation, it is important that the pump is not disassembled before it is returned. Returned pumps will be tested prior to disassembly in order to document performance. Report any occurrences through the Dealer Solutions Network.
