Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the torque converter inlet relief valve or the torque converter outlet relief valve. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Relief Valve (Torque Converter Inlet) - Remove and Install" and/or the Disassembly and Assembly, "Relief Valve (Torque Converter Outlet) - Remove and Install". Note: The torque converter outlet relief valve is shown in the following photos.

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Remove bolts (3) and cover (2) from body (1).

Remove O-ring seal (4).

Remove bolts (5), cover (6), and O-ring seal (7).

Remove spring (8), shims (9), and spool assembly (10).

Remove retaining ring (14), retainer (13), spring (12), and poppet (11) from the spool.

Remove plug (19).
Remove plug (18).
Remove dust cap (15), nipple assembly (16), and O-ring seal (17). Note: The torque converter inlet relief valve has a plug and an O-ring seal instead of nipple assembly (16) and O-ring seal (17).
