Thoroughly inspect the condition of the connector for fuel actuator (1). Also, thoroughly inspect connectors (2) and (4). Inspect power strip (3) for good wiring connections. Check fuse (F1) and the fuse holder for good repair. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for the correct procedure.
Check the torque of the fasteners for each of the ECM connectors and of the engine interface connector. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for the correct torque values.
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points from the battery to the ECM panel. Check that the fuses for the circuit are not blown. Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are connected properly. The connectors and the wiring do not have corrosion, abrasion, or pinch points.Results:
OK - The connectors, wiring, and the circuit breaker appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - The connectors, wiring, or the circuit breaker are not OK.Repair: Repair the problem. Replace parts, if necessary. Verify that the repair has eliminated the original problem.STOPTest Step 2. Check for Diagnostic Codes that are Active or Logged
Connect the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
Restore the electrical power to the engine. Set the engine control to STOP.
Look for a 5419-2, 5419-7, 5419-12, or 5419-13 diagnostic code that is active or logged. Note: Monitor the active diagnostic code and the logged diagnostic codes on Cat ET. Wait at least 30 seconds in order for diagnostic codes to become active.
Remove the electrical power from the engine. Expected Result:None of the 5419 codes are active at this time.Results:
OK - Logged 5419 Diagnostic Code - One of the 5419 codes is logged.Repair: For a logged 5419-2, the actuator has failed at least one calibration attempt. If this code has been logged and the 5419-13 code has not become active, a calibration attempt has failed. The actuator was calibrated successfully on the next attempt. The valve assembly may be sticking. Check the valve for dirt and debris. If necessary, clean the valve assembly.For a logged 5419-7 or 5419-13, ensure that the ambient temperature around the actuator and valve assembly is above −40° C (−40° F). If the engine is being operated in colder ambient temperatures, take the appropriate measures that
