Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the exhaust elbow. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Elbow - Remove and Install".
Remove the air lines. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Lines - Remove and Install". Rear Mounted Turbocharger
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Coolant System Coolant - Change".

Remove bolts (2). Disconnect tube assembly (5) from the cylinder block. Remove the tube assembly from turbocharger (1). Remove the O-ring seal from the tube assembly.
Remove bolts (3). Remove tube assembly (4) from turbocharger (1). Remove the O-ring seals from the tube assembly.

Loosen hose clamp (6). Remove hose (7) from turbocharger (1).
Loosen hose clamp (10). Remove hose (11) from turbocharger (1).
Attach a suitable lifting device to turbocharger (1). The weight of turbocharger (1) is approximately 28 kg (62 lb).
Remove locknuts (8). Remove turbocharger (1) from exhaust manifold (9). Remove the turbocharger gasket from the exhaust manifold. Side Mounted Turbocharger

Loosen hose clamp (13). Remove hose (12) from turbocharger (14).
Loosen hose clamp (15). Remove hose (16) from turbocharger (14).

Remove bolts (19). Remove tube assembly (18) from the cylinder block. Remove the O-ring seals from the tube assembly.
Remove bolts (17). Disconnect tube assembly (20) from the cylinder block. Remove the tube assembly. Remove the O-ring seal from the tube assembly.
Attach a suitable lifting device to turbocharger (14). The weight of turbocharger (14) is approximately 28 kg (62 lb).
Remove locknuts (22). Remove turbocharger (14) from exhaust manifold (21). Remove the turbocharger gasket from the exhaust manifold.
