Operating The Machine
To prevent injury, make sure that no maintenance work is being performed on the machine or near the machine. Keep the machine under control at all times in order to prevent injury.Reduce the engine speed when you maneuver the machine in tight quarters or when you break over a rise.Select the gear range that is necessary before you start the downgrade. Do not change gears when you are going downhill.Do not allow the engine to overspeed when you are unloaded and moving down a slope. Watch the tachometer and use the service brakes. Use the service brakes near the top of the slope to prevent excessive engine speed. When you drive down a grade, use the same gear range that is used for driving up a grade.
Adjust the operator's seat.
Fasten the seat belt.
Push down on the service brake pedal in order to prevent the machine from moving.
Start the engine.
Raise all attachments enough to clear any unexpected obstacles.

Release the parking brake by pushing down on the parking brake knob. This unlocks the parking brake, the transmission control, and the steering lever.Note: When the parking brake is set, the transmission defaults to neutral. When the parking brake is released the transmission will stay in neutral. In order to select a gear, return the direction selector to neutral. Then, select a desired direction. Then, select the desired gear.
Illustration 2 g01043861
Move direction selector (1) to the desired direction. Use transmission gear selector (2) to select the desired gear.
Release the service brake pedal in order to allow the machine to move.

To select high idle, push in the top of the throttle control and release. To select low idle, push in the bottom of the throttle control and release.Select an intermediate speed in the following manner:
Select the desired engine speed with the decelerator.
Push in the top of the throttle control and hold for three seconds in order to lock in the engine speed. To return to high idle from an intermediate engine speed, push in and release the top of the throttle control. To return to low idle from an intermediate speed, push in and release the bottom of the throttle control.
Use the steering lever in order to turn the machine.
Drive the machine forward for best visibility and for control.Changing Direction and Speed
Illustration 4 g01043869
For operator comfort and maximum service life of power train components, deceleration and/or braking is recommended before any directional shifts are made.
Gear changes and directional changes at full engine speed are possible. However, deceleration and/or braking is recommended when you change direction. This will maximize operator comfort and the service life of transmission components.
In order to decrease engine speed, push down on the decelerator pedal.

When the machine slows, shift the transmission to the desired direction with direction selector (1) .
Increase the engine speed by releasing the decelerator pedal.
Select the desired gear with transmission gear selector (2) .
