Remove one bolt (2). Insert Tooling (A) in the crankshaft and remove remaining bolts (2) from flex plate (3).
Remove flex plate (3) from the crankshaft. The weight of flex plate (3) is approximately 20 kg (45 lb).
Remove bolts (5) and washers (6). Remove flywheel housing adapter (4) from flywheel housing (1).
Remove bolts (8) and adapter (9) from flex plate (3).
Use a hammer and a punch in order to remove ring gear (7) from flex plate (3). Installation Procedure

Illustration 4 g01276915Note: Ring gear (7) must be installed with the chamfered side of the teeth upward. The chamfered side of the gear teeth will be facing toward the starting motor when flex plate (3) is installed.
Raise the temperature of ring gear (7). Install ring gear (7) on flex plate (3).
Position adapter (9) and install bolts (8) in flex plate (3).
Install Tooling (A) in the crankshaft.
Position flex plate (3) on the crankshaft. The weight of flex plate (3) is approximately 20 kg (45 lb).
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (2).
Install bolts (2). Remove Tooling (A). Install remaining bolt (2).
Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 300 40 N m (221 30 lb ft).
Check the flywheel runout. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Flywheel - Inspect".
Install flywheel housing adapter (4) on flywheel housing (1).
Install bolts (5) and washers (6). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 70 15 N m (52 11 lb ft).
