Illustration 1. "Hammer Card" used for recording installation checks.
It is important to certify that the measured flows and pressures are within the specified limits (see Chart 3). Oil flows and pressures which are too low can reduce hammer efficiency, and oil flows and pressures which are too high can cause extensive internal hammer damage.
Illustration 2. Tools and parts needed; see Chart 1.Test Procedure
1. Disconnect the hammer pressure and return hose assemblies from the hammer inlet and outlet ports (Balderson Hammer Models B70, B90, and B110 only). For the remaining models (B115-B195), disconnect the hammer pressure and return hose assemblies from the shut-off valves (see Illustration 3).
Illustration 3. Disconnect hammer lines and install test lines at location indicated by arrow.Fabricate and install the appropriate test hose assemblies (see Illustration 4 and Chart 2) to the fittings in the shut-off valves from which the hammer pressure and return hose assemblies were removed.
Illustration 4. Assembly diagram for test hoses. See Chart 2. 2. Install the appropriate fittings into the portable hydraulic tester and connect an 8T0856 Pressure Gauge to the reducer, using a short hose with 7/16-20 JIC fittings (see Illustration 2).3. Connect the hammer pressure (test) hose assembly to the adapter in the inlet port of the portable hydraulic tester.4. Connect the hammer return (test) hose assembly to the tee in the outlet port of the portable hydraulic tester.5. Turn the variable orifice control knob of the portable hydraulic tester to the "fully open" position. Insure that both shut-off valves (if equipped) are in the "open" position.6. Start the engine of the machine and adjust the governor control to the high idle position. This test must be conducted with the hydraulic oil at operating temperature 71 to 82°C (160 to 180°F).7. Activate the hammer hydraulic circuit by operating the hammer circuit foot/hand control. The machine's hydraulic and directional lock lever (if equipped) must be in the "unlocked" position before the hammer circuit can be activated.8. Close the variable orifice in the portable hydraulic tester (no flow) and adjust the hammer hydraulic circuit pressure relief valve (if equipped) to 3000 kPa (435 psi) above the operating pressure listed in Chart 3. The operating pressure is the mean value of the pressure, measured with a dampened pressure gauge, at the inlet port of the hammer during hammer operation on hard material. Do not exceed the machine's main pressure relief valve pressure setting. 9. Open the variable orifice until the pressure gauge in the portable hydraulic tester indicates the operating pressure listed in Chart 3. Note the hammer oil flow from the flow meter in the portable hydraulic tester and record on the "Hammer Card".10. Note the return line back pressure from the gauge installed on the tee and record on the "Hammer Card". Oil flow must be reduced if the flow measured exceeds the oil flow range listed in Chart 3. Also, changes must be made to the return circuit if the return line back pressure exceeds the specified pressure range in Chart
