Check the axial end play. The axial end play must be between 0.10 to 0.20 mm (0.004 to 0.008 inch) for a new impeller. The axial end play must be 0.30 mm (0.012 inch) for a used impeller.
Attach a suitable lifting device to center housing (8). Lift center housing (8). Remove Tooling (E).

Install bearing housing (8) into main support housing (23). Secure bolts (7). Note: Caution should be used in order to prevent damage to the turbine wheel and the shroud. Tooling (F) should be used to guide the bearing housing into position.

Assemble diffuser (6) (not shown) into compressor housing (5). Install compressor housing (5) on bearing housing (23). Tighten outer twelve bolts (4) to a torque of 58 12 N m (43 9 lb ft). Tighten inner six bolts (3) to a torque of 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft). Note: Use caution in order to avoid damaging the impeller.

Install the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Install". Assembly Procedure 2
The following procedure is for the TPS 57 turbocharger.

Install two steel rods through the holes in cartridge assembly (9). The rods should have a diameter of approximately 19 mm (0.75 inch) and a length of approximately 610 mm (24 inch). Attach lifting slings and a suitable lifting device to the steel rods. Note: Ensure that the identification marks on all casings and housings are aligned upon assembly.
Install cartridge assembly (9) into turbine assembly (12).

Install V-band clamp (11). Tighten V-band clamp (11) to a torque of 60 N m (44 lb ft).

Install O-ring seal (10) into the groove in cartridge assembly (9).

Install Tooling (L) to compressor housing (7). Use a suitable lifting device.
Install compressor housing (7). Tighten V-band clamp (8) to a torque of 60 N m (44 lb ft).

Install O-ring seal (6) into the groove in housing (4).

Attach Tooling (L) and a suitable lifting device to housing (4) at position (B). Install housing (4). Install V-band clamp (5). Tighten V-band clamp (5) to a torque of 60 N m (44 lb ft).

Install gasket (3).

Attach Tooling (L) to the exhaust adapter (2). Use a suitable lifting device.
Install exhaust adapter (2). Install the twelve bolts, nuts, and washers (1). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 65 N m (48 lb ft). End By:
Install the turbocharger on the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Install".
