Step 2: Perform a pull test on each wire of the Control Panel of the Master ECM. Perform a pull test on each wire of the Control Panel of the Slave ECM. Perform a pull test on each wire of the CAT Data Link II.
Remove the power from the control system. Turn the Engine Control Switch (ECS) to the OFF/RESET position. Open the circuit breakers in the engine mounted panel.
Connectors
When each pin and each socket is pulled with a force of
44 N (10 lb), each pin and each socket should remain in the connector body. This test checks for proper crimping, soldering, and insertion. The pull test can be performed by firmly grasping the connector body and then pulling each wire. Refer to Troubleshooting, "P-501: Inspecting Electrical Connectors" for details. Refer to the Schematic Symbol Key (Illustration 1) and the CAT Data Link II Schematic (Illustration 2).
Note:
Only MS Connector pins and sockets are soldered. Deutsch pins and sockets should always be crimped. Deutsch pins and sockets should never be soldered. Use a 1U-5804 Crimp Tool to crimp a Deutsch pin. Use a 1U-5804 Crimp Tool to crimp a Deutsch socket.
Terminal Strips
The Phoenix terminal strips should be checked with a pull test. Grasp each wire. Give a firm tug with a light amount of force.
Check the harness and the wiring between the Master ECM and the Slave ECM. Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and for pinch points.
All connectors, pins, and sockets should be completely connected. The harness and the wiring should be free of abrasion and pinch points.     OK ⇒     The pins, sockets, and wires are properly assembled and inserted.
Proceed to the Next step.
Not OK ⇒ The pins, sockets, and/or wires are not properly assembled or inserted. Repair the connector assembly and/or replace the wiring.
For Deutsch Connectors, refer to Troubleshooting, "REPAIRING ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS - DEUTSCH DT AND HD STYLES".
Stop.

Step 3: Inspect the connectors for corrosion and damage.
Connectors
Disconnect the connectors. Carefully examine each pin and each socket for evidence of corrosion and/or damage. Verify the proper alignment of the pins in the connector. If corrosion is present, remove any large deposits. Clean the connection by using a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol. Investigate the source of the corrosion and replace the corroded part.
Terminal Strips
Visually examine the wire ends for evidence of corrosion or for frayed strands of wire. If corrosion is present, remove any large deposits. Clean the terminal strips by using a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol. Remove any frayed wire strands or any tin from the end of the wire.
All connectors should be free of corrosion and moisture. Connector seals should be properly installed and free of damage.
OK ⇒     The contacts of the connector do not have
