This Special Instruction details that procedure to install 520-9956 Actuator As to 443-0326 Turbocharger, 443-0589 Turbocharger, 443-0590 Turbocharger, 461-1107 Turbocharger As, 461-1109 Turbocharger As and 461-1127 Turbocharger As on certain C7.1 engines.Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.Safety Section
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Required Parts
The 520-9956 Actuator As is required.Installation Procedure
Table 1
Required Tools
Tool Part Number Part Description Qty
A 215-2592 Wastegate Tool 1
B - Hose (Internal Diameter of 6.35 mm (0.25 inch)) 1
Disconnect the hose assembly from the wastegate actuator.
Illustration 1 g06211406
Typical example
Remove circlip (3) from pin (2). Retain circlip.
Connect Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) to the wastegate actuator. Pressurize the wastegate actuator to a pressure of 90 kPa (13 psi). The wastegate actuator shaft should move, which will help with the removal of the rod.Note: If there is an issue with the wastegate actuator, the wastegate actuator may not move. Proceed to Step 4.
Remove rod (1) from pin (2). Ensure that the rod or the pin are not subjected to any undue stress.
Reduce the pressure from the wastegate actuator. Remove Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) from the wastegate actuator.
Illustration 2 g06211445
Typical example
Make temporary marks on all components to show correct orientation and alignment. Remove retaining nuts (5) and heat shield (7) from bracket (6). Remove wastegate actuator (4) from bracket (6). Retain nuts, heat shield, and wastegate actuator.
Illustration 3 g06211451
Typical example
Remove bolts (9) from bracket (8). Remove bracket (8) from turbocharger. Retain bolts.
Illustration 4 g06211455
Typical example
Position new bracket (10) to turbocharger. Install bolts (9) to bracket (10). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 13.4 N m (119 lb in).
