(11) Hole in the detent cam plate
Install the New Pin.Note: This is the most difficult step in the installation procedure.
Remove any debris that remains from the drilling process.
Insert the replacement pin into the hole. Refer to Illustration 8.
Hold the pin (12). Loosely thread the locknut (13) on the pin. Ensure that the threads are properly aligned before you force the nut past the locking features. If the threads are not properly aligned, you may strip the threads.
Use a small crescent wrench in order to hold the flat part of the replacement pin. Use a open-ended wrench (3/8 inch) in order to tighten the nut.
Torque the nut to 1.24 0.11 N m (11 1 lb in). The nut should be snug but not too tight. If the nut is too tight, you may strip the threads.

Install the New Shaft.
Slide the new shaft through the bushing. The flat driver should protrude through the housing's sensor-mounting side. Refer to Illustration 9.
Use snap ring pliers in order to attach the new snap ring. Ensure that the snap ring fully seats in the retaining ring of the shaft.Note: The shaft should freely spin in the bushing. Ensure that there is no drag on the shaft. If there is drag on the shaft, remove the shaft. Remove any debris. Refer to Step 4. If Step 4 is repeated, be careful not to damage the snap ring. Check the shaft for drag again. When the shaft spins freely in the bushing, replace the snap ring.

Install the Sensor.Align the driver of the shaft so that the driver mates with the sensor. With the two screws and locknuts that were removed in Step 2, mount the sensor. Torque the nuts to 2.26 N m (20.003 lb in).

Install the new fork.Slide the new fork onto the driver shaft so that the pin sits between the fork tines. The fork should seat on the top face of the bushing.Note: At this point, do not tighten either of the setscrews.

Calibrate the Sensor.Set the transmission control to the Neutral position. There are two different methods that are used to calibrate the sensor:Method 1 - Connect the transmission control to the transmission control harness. The control harness is located in the cab. As you complete this test, use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). ET will allow you to view the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) output from the control.Method 2 - Attach a 12 VDC power supply or a 24 VDC power supply to the sensor connector. Attach "Pin A" of the sensor's DT connector to the power supply's positive terminal (+). Attach "Pin B" of the sensor's DT connector to the power supply's ground terminal (-). Attach the multimeter's ground lead to the ground terminal of the power supply. Attach the multimeter's positive lead to the lead wire that is attached to "Pin C" of the DT plug. Turn on
