Remove the front housing.
Remove the flywheel housing.
Remove the engine oil pump.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Ensure that the No. 1 cylinder is at the top center compression stroke. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Finding Top Center Position for No. 1 Piston".

Remove connecting rod caps (1) and crankshaft main bearing caps (2).
Remove the thrust plates from the cylinder block.

Fasten Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to crankshaft (3). The weight of crankshaft (3) is approximately 79 kg (175 lb).
Remove crankshaft (3). Installation Procedure
Install crankshaft (3) in the reverse order of removal.
Ensure that the crankshaft main bearing tabs engage with the grooves in the block and the crankshaft main bearing cap.
Apply clean engine oil to the thrust plates and install the thrust plates in the cylinder block.
Tighten the bolts for connecting rod caps (1) by using the following procedure. Tighten each bolt to a torque of 50 5 N m (37 3 lb ft). Place an index mark on each bolt. Tighten each bolt for an additional 90 5 degrees (1/4 turn).
Tighten the bolts for crankshaft main bearing caps (2) by using the following procedure. Tighten each bolt to a torque of 95 5 N m (70 4 lb ft). Place an index mark on each bolt. Tighten each bolt for an additional 90 5 degrees (1/4 turn).
