Introduction
This Special Instruction outlines the correct procedure in order to install the engine muffler in the field. The correct alignment between the muffler and the exhaust pipe from the turbocharger will increase the service life of the muffler.Installation Of The Engine Muffler
Avoid contact with hot surfaces. Exhaust piping and engine components become hot during engine operation and cool slowly after engine shutdown. Any contact with hot surfaces can cause severe burns.

Top View Of The Muffler Brackets (P) Bolt (R) 249 2 mm (9.8 0.08 inch)
Loosen four bolts (P). Refer to Illustration 1. Adjust the muffler brackets in order to orient the brackets in the correct position. Tighten four bolts (P) to a torque of 35 6 N m (26 4 lb ft).

Exhaust Pipe For The Turbocharger And Engine Muffler (A) Exhaust pipe (B) Clamp assembly (C) Muffler inlet assembly (D) Engine muffler (E) Alignment of the center line (F) Nuts
Insert exhaust pipe (A) for the turbocharger into muffler inlet assembly (C) on muffler (D). Tighten nuts (F) on clamp assembly (B) to a torque of 21 3 N m (15 2 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 2.
Adjust the orientation of the exhaust pipe. Make sure that center line (E ) for the exhaust pipe on the turbocharger and the center line for the muffler inlet assembly are aligned. Refer to Illustration 2.

Orientation Of The Nut On The U-bolts For The Muffler (H) U-bolt (J) Nut (K) 35 2 mm (1.38 0.08 inch)
Assemble four nuts (J) on U-bolt (H). Make sure that the dimension between the end of the U-bolt and the nut is 35 2 mm (1.38 0.08 inch). Refer to Illustration 3.
Adjust the nuts on the U-bolts in order to make sure that the U-bolts are parallel.

Install two U-bolts (H) on the upper side of the muffler. Tighten four nuts (M) on the lower side of the U-bolts to a torque of 12 N m (9 lb ft). Make sure that the distance (L) between the muffler bracket and the end of the U-bolts is 23 2 mm (0.90 0.08 inch). Refer to Illustration 4.
Tighten four nuts (J) on the upper side of U-bolts (H) to a torque of 35 6 N m (26 4 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 4.

Clamp Assembly (B) Clamp assembly (F) Nuts
Tighten two nuts (F) on clamp assembly (B) for exhaust pipe (A) between the turbocharger and the new muffler. Tighten the nuts to a torque of 64 10 N m (47 7 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 5.
