Table 1
Diagnostic Codes Table
Code and Description Conditions which Generate this Code System Response
91-13 Throttle Position Sensor calibration required The duty cycle for the throttle position sensor signal is less than 5 percent or more than 95 percent. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) sets the desired engine speed to programmed low idle while this diagnostic code is active. Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) will indicate a throttle position of 0 percent while this diagnostic code is active.
1249-13 Secondary Throttle Position calibration required The throttle linkage should operate without binding or without excessive drag. The calibration of the throttle position sensor requires the use of Cat ET.

Typical example
Check the Throttle Linkage for Damage.
Turn off the power to the engine's ECM.
Inspect the throttle linkage for components with the following conditions:
Loose
Bent
Broken
Missing
WornRepair any damaged components.
Adjust the Throttle Linkage for Low Idle.
Connect Cat ET to the service tool connector.
Turn on the power to the engine's ECM. Do not start the engine.
Observe the throttle position on Cat ET.
Place the throttle lever in the low idle position. Adjust the throttle linkage or adjust the low idle set screw until the throttle position on Cat ET reads 0 percent. When the throttle is in the low idle position, the duty cycle of the throttle position sensor is 5 to 10 percent. The ECM converts this duty cycle of 5 to 10 percent into a throttle position of 0 percent.
Adjust the Throttle Linkage for High Idle.
Place the throttle lever in the high idle position. Adjust the throttle linkage or adjust the high idle set screw until the throttle position on Cat ET reads 100 percent. When the throttle is in the high idle position, the duty cycle of the throttle position sensor is 90 to 95 percent. The ECM converts this duty cycle of 90 to 95 percent into a throttle position of 100 percent.Adjust the throttle from the low idle position to the high idle position. Monitor the throttle position on Cat ET. If the throttle position Cat ET does not read 0 to 100 percent, perform this procedure again.
