Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Operate the transmission until the torque converter and transmission oil is warm.Note: The transmission oil will need to be removed before replacing the filter. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Torque Converter and Transmission Oil - Change" for the correct procedure. Store the oil in a suitable container.

Unscrew transmission oil filter (1) from the oil filter base. Use a 2P-8250 Strap Wrench Assembly in order to remove transmission oil filter (1). Inspect the transmission oil filter. See "Install a New Transmission Oil Filter". Note: Some additional oil may drain from the oil filter base (2) when the oil filter (1) is removed. Ensure that a suitable container is in place in order to capture any oil that may drain from the oil filter base (2).Install a New Transmission Oil Filter

Wipe the sealing surface. Make sure that you remove all of the oil filter seal.

Apply a thin coat of clean transmission oil to the new oil filter seal. Install the new oil filter by hand. When the filter seal contacts the filter base, tighten the filter element by an additional turn of 270 degrees.
