Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Repeat the procedure for each cylinder head.
Clean the surface of the cylinder head and the surface of the spacer plate. A new spacer plate gasket must be installed when the cylinder head is removed.

Install O-ring seal (19) on the dowel.
Ensure that the surface of the spacer plate gasket and the surface of the cylinder block are clean. Do not use a gasket adhesive on these surfaces.
Install a new spacer plate gasket (18) on the dowels in the cylinder block.

Install spacer plate (17) on the dowels.
Install four new seals (13) and (14) in spacer plate (17).
Install new O-ring seal (15) on the dowel.
Install cylinder head gasket (16).

The plug at Location (A) MUST be installed on engines that are equipped with a dry exhaust manifold. REMOVE the plug on engines that are equipped with a water cooled exhaust manifold.

Install Tooling (A) and attach a suitable lifting device to the cylinder head. The weight of cylinder head (11) is approximately 47 kg (105 lb). Position cylinder head (11) on the spacer plate. Remove Tool (A).
Install bolts (10) and bolts (12) in the cylinder head.

Use the following procedure to tighten the cylinder head bolts.
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of the cylinder head bolts.
Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (8) in a numerical sequence to a torque of 30 5 N m (22 4 lb ft).
Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (8) again in a numerical sequence to a torque of 270 35 N m (200 26 lb ft).
Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (8) again in a numerical sequence to a torque of 450 20 N m (330 15 lb ft).
Tighten bolt (9) and bolt (10) to a torque of 55 10 N m (40 7 lb ft).

Install gasket (8) and exhaust elbow (9).

Install new gaskets (6) and tube (4) that runs from the water manifold to the cylinder head.
Install new gasket (7) and air inlet elbow (5). Note: If necessary, replace the flame arrestor.

Install exhaust temperature sensor (3) in the cylinder head.

Install valve cover base (2) on the cylinder head .
Install bracket (1) on the water manifold.
Fill the cooling system to the correct level with coolant. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure. End By:
Install the rocker shaft assemblies and the pushrods.
