Schematic of the Left Rear Motor Speed Sensor (CB44B, CB54B, CD44B and CD54B Split Drum models)
This diagnostic code is associated with the Left Rear Motor Speed Sensor #2. The FMI 05 means that the Display ECM has detected that the current for the speed sensor circuit is below normal.Note: The diagnostic code is transmitted from the Display ECM to the Machine ECM 1 over the CAN 0 Data Link.Conditions that cause this diagnostic code to be activated are:
The power supply circuit is open.
The power supply circuit is grounded.
The signal circuit #2 of the speed sensor is open.
The speed sensor has failed.
The Display ECM has failed. The failure of the Display ECM is unlikely.Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. After making any possible fix to the circuit, cycle the Key Switch in order to determine if the Diagnostic Code still exists. Some Diagnostic Codes may not display until the engine is running.System Response:A Level 2 warning is generated.Test Step 1. CHECK FOR POWER AT THE SENSOR
Do not disconnect the harness connector from the sensor.
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the voltage supply wire J850-WH(White) (contact 1).
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage from contact 1 to frame ground. Expected Result:The voltage is 8 1.0 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage is 8 1.0 VDC. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage is not 8 1.0 VDC. The circuit is open or grounded. Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the speed sensor from the machine harness. Note: Sensor pin connections vary depending on model. Refer to the schematic specific to your model.
At the machine harness connector for the speed sensor, place a jumper wire from wire contact J718-OR(Orange) to wire contact J719-PU(Purple).
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the Display ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the Display ECM, measure the resistance from contact 10 (wire J720-BR(Brown)) to contact 11 (wire J722-BR(Brown)).
While observing the multimeter resistance measurement, wiggle the machine harness connectors for the Display ECM and wiggle the machine harness connector for the speed sensor. Gently pull on the wires and move the wires around. Expected Result:The resistance measurement is less than 5.0 ohms at all times during the manipulation of the harness and connectors. Results:
OK - The resistance measurement is less than 5.0 ohms. The resistance measurement is not indicating an open or a bad connection in the circuit. Proceed to Test
