Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the hammer from the housing. Refer to the Service Manual, "Hydraulic Hammer - Remove".
Remove the accumulator. Refer to the Service Manual, "Hydraulic Accumulator - Remove". Note: Upon removal of the control valve, check the following items for cracks: tie rods, tie rod nuts and lock plates. Repair the cracks, as needed.

Remove rubber ring (1) by hand. Lift the rubber ring from the top of tie rod (3).
Remove lock plate (2). Lift the plate by hand from the top of tie rod (3). You may need to pry upward on the plate in order to loosen the plate. Note: In order to remove the tie rods, you may be required to heat the tie rods. Do not heat the tie rods to a temperature that is greater than 300 °C (572 °F). Do not use a torque multiplier in order to loosen the tie rods.Note: You must keep the tie rods and the tie rod nuts as a matched set.
Remove tie rods (3). In order to remove the tie rods, use a suitable lifting device. As you remove each tie rod, you must mark the tie rod and the tie rod nut. You must keep the tie rod and the tie rod nut as a matched set.

Lift control valve (4) away from the cylinder. Use a suitable lifting device to lift the valve.
