Information:
Always use wire ropes for extension to measure wire ropes in the checking procedure.Number of individual wires broken
If more than 10% (24) of a total of individual wires of a wire rope (consisting of six strands) within the specified measuring range are broken. If the diameter of a wire rope is reduced by more than 7% of its nominal diameter. If a wire rope is kinked, significantly deformed or corroded.Check wire ropes (2)
The wire ropes are subject to bending load each time they run on the sheaves, resulting in fatigue failure with use.Failure to perform the recommended check and maintenance procedure for the wire ropes could cause the wire ropes to be broken, resulting in dropping of clamshell bucket and inner tube. This could result in serious personal injury or death.
Always use wire ropes for extension to measure wire ropes in the checking procedure. The life of a wire rope may vary depending on applications, operating conditions, etc. If a wire rope is found to be beyond the allowable limit during the checking procedure, all of the wire ropes must be replaced as a set. If this happens, contact your Caterpillar dealer for replacement of wire ropes. 1. Remove the clamshell bucket and place the machine in the position, as shown above, with the telescopic stick supported by two wooden blocks (with same size of 100mm square).2. Extend the telescopic stick by about 1m, and clean grease off the wire ropes. 3. Loosen adjusting nut (1) of the wire rope and disconnect the wire rope. Do this procedure on the adjusting nut of the other wire rope for extension. 4. Using the disconnected end portion of about 1000mm, bend it by pushing towards inside from both sides, and check to see how many individual wires of a wire rope are broken. Replace all of the wire ropes as a set if individual wires beyond the allowable limit are found to be broken. 5. If within the allowable limit, re-install the wire ropes and adjust the tension of each wire rope in accordance with the following procedure:1) Re-connect the wire ropes so as to be under the condition like before having been disconnected in step-3 above.2) Since, when re-connected as described above, the telescopic stick is extended by about 1m, let the telescopic stick fully retracted by pressing the telescopic stick retraction pedal.3) Make sure that there is no gap at "A" between the contact surfaces of inner tube and middle tube retraction stoppers.* Loosen adjusting nuts (3) and (4) of each wire rope (for retraction) and extend inner tube (5) by 10 to 50mm.* Then, tighten adjusting nuts (3) and (4) until there is no gap at "A". When tightening the nuts, use care to keep equalizer (6) from tilting.4) Put each wire rope in appropriate tension by tightening nut (3) additional five turns. Then tighten nut (4) to lock in position.5) Tighten nut (1) until a slight (about 0.5~1.0mm) gap takes place at "A" and tighten nut
