Parking Brake Test Procedure
Personal injury can result if the machine moves while testing.If the machine begins to move during the test, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the service brakes.Make reference to the on the first page of the Brake System Testing And Adjusting section.
Be sure the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions.Be sure the steering frame lock link is in the stored position.Test the brakes on a dry, level surface.Fasten the seat belt before performing the following brake test.1. Start the engine, and raise the bucket or attachment slightly. The following step will produce a Warning Category 3. The parking brake indicator light will come on, the action lamp will flash, and the action alarm will sound.2. With the parking brake engaged, move the transmission to third speed forward.3. Gradually increase the engine speed to high idle. The machine should not move.4. Reduce the engine speed, move the transmission to NEUTRAL. Lower the bucket or attachment to the ground and stop the engine.
If the machine moved while testing the parking brake, inspect and repair the parking brake components as required before returning the machine to service.
Transmission Neutralizer Switches And Alert Indicator
Make reference to the on the first page of the Testing And Adjusting section.
This section describes only the troubleshooting method to determine if the transmission neutralizer limit switch, the transmission neutralizer lockout switch, and the transmission neutralizer lockout alert indicator is operational.The transmission neutralizer limit switch is normally closed. The limit switch is wired in parallel with a two position transmission neutralizer lockout (rocker) switch. The rocker switch is located on the switch panel to the right of the operator.When the transmission neutralizer lockout switch is in the unlocked (down) position, the transmission neutralizer lockout alert indicator is turned off. This indicator is located to the left of the four gauge cluster on the dash. When the transmission neutralizer lockout switch is in the locked (up) position, the transmission neutralizer lockout alert indicator is turned on.In order for the transmission neutralizer to function, the normally closed limit switch must be in the open position (either brake pedal depressed at least 6.0 mm (.24 in), and the transmission neutralizer lockout switch must be in the unlocked (down) position. Use the following procedure to check the operation of the transmission neutralizer limit switch, the transmission neutralizer lockout switch, and the alert indicator.1. Start the engine and allow the hydraulic system to reach normal operating temperature.2. Move the transmission neutralizer lockout switch to the locked (up) position. The transmission neutralizer lockout alert indicator (located to the left of the four gauge cluster on the dash) should turn on. When a brake pedal assembly is depressed, the service brakes should operate normally (transmission should not shift to neutral).3.
