The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3761" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3761" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
Even though some machines may have already had PI3698 administered, this Program should still be performed.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the June 24, 1995 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Terminatino Date.

The steering clutch may not completely disengage due to low steering clutch oil pressure on certain D5C Series III, D5C Series III LGP Tractors and 939 Track Type Loaders. This may result in slow steering performance and brake wear. A new control valve needs to be installed.

1. D5C/939 Pedal Steer Machines: Replace the current 8Y6734 Valve Group (left hand) with the 1178824 Valve Group (left hand) and replace the 8Y6735 Valve Group (right hand) with 1178825 Valve Group (right hand). The 1178824 Valve Group (left hand) must be made by re-orienting the rear valve body on the 1178825 Valve Group (right hand) so that the port connecting to the 8Y2223 Tube Assembly faces to the outside of the machine. See Illustration 1.2. D5C Hand Steer Machines: Replace the current 8Y6737 Valve Group (left hand) with the 1178827 Valve Group (left hand) and replace the 8Y6733 Valve Group (right hand) with the 1178826 Valve Group (right hand). The 1178827 Valve Group (left hand) must be made by reorienting the rear valve body of the 1178826 Valve Group (right hand) so that the port connecting to the 8Y2223 Tube Assembly faces to the outside of the machine. See Illustration 1.
