Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
Drain the engine oil from the oil cooler into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove the bolts and retainers (3) from both ends of tube (2).
Remove the bolt and clamp (1).
Disconnect flange (5) and tube (4) from the adapter for the water line.

Remove the bolts in elbow (6) and tube (7). Remove the unit from the engine oil cooler bonnet.

Disconnect wiring harness (12) for the detonation sensor.
Attach a suitable lifting device to the engine oil cooler. Remove two bolts (8) and two bolts (11).
Remove engine oil cooler (10) from tube (9) and remove tube (2). The weight of the engine oil cooler is approximately 45 kg (100 lb) on G3508 Engines. The weight of the engine oil cooler is approximately 65 kg (145 lb) on G3512 Engines. The weight of the engine oil cooler is approximately 78 kg (171 lb) on G3516 Engines.
