Connections of the quick coupler disengage solenoid
This diagnostic code is associated with the Connections of the quick coupler disengage solenoid. The FMI 05 means the ECM has determined that an open exists in the circuit for the solenoid. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The energized circuit of the solenoid is open.
The energized circuit of the solenoid is shorted to ground.
The return circuit of the solenoid is open.
The return circuit of the solenoid is shorted to ground.
The solenoid has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2815 FMI 05 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.System Response:A level 1 warning will be generated.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. DO NOT start the engine.
Disconnect the solenoid with the active diagnostic code from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire 780-PU(Purple)) to contact 2 (wire E789-PU(Purple)).
Observe the status of the CID 2815 FMI 05. Expected Result:The CID 2815 FMI 05 remains active when the jumper wire is installed. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code FMI 05 remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the diagnostic code. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The diagnostic code changes from FMI 05 to FMI 06.Repair: The solenoid has failed. Replace the solenoid. Verify that the new solenoid corrects the problem. STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR AN OPEN.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector(s) from the ECM.
The jumper wire that was installed in the previous Test Step remains.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from the signal contact 34 (wire 780-PU(Purple)) to the return contact 35 (wire E789-PU(Purple)). Expected Result:The resistance should be less than 5.0 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The resistance measurement is not correct. There is an open circuit in the machine harness.Repair: The open is in the wire with the resistance measuring greater than 5000 ohms. The open is in either signal wire (780-PU(Purple)) or return wire (E789-PU(Purple)) of the machine harness. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE ENERGIZED SIDE OF THE CIRCUIT FOR
