The Product Link PLE640 is a communications system that uses cellular towers in order to transmit information to Caterpillar, Caterpillar dealers and Caterpillar customers. The unit contains a Global Positioning System (GPS) cellular receiver.Note: The time periods that are referenced in this publication are dependent upon the performance of the communications network which may vary at times.The Product Link PLE640 is compatible with Cat Datalink® (CDL) or CAN data link. All logged events and diagnostic codes are available to the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) on the CDL or CAN data link. Product Link PLE640 is not compatible with the communication protocol that is used on the ATA data link for on-highway trucks.The Product Link PLE640 also provides the customer with the following information:

Diagnostic codes
Event codesThe system allows two-way communication between the equipment and a remote user such as a Caterpillar dealer or a customer. At any time, a user can request updated information from the equipment. Also, the system parameters for the Product Link module can be changed. The information goes from the Product Link system to a cellular tower. The information is sent to the "Caterpillar Main Frame", and on to the "Product Link Web". The information can be accessed by Caterpillar, Caterpillar dealers and Caterpillar customers.Scheduled Reporting
The PLE640 system can be set up to report on a regular schedule to the Product Link Web system. The schedule can be selected and modified through Product Link Web depending on the subscription the customer chooses.Note: The PLE640 system consists of the PL640 cellular radio and the PLE601 Network Manager.Geo-Fence
Geo-Fence is a feature of the Product Link PLE640 system. A Geo-Fence can be set up only through Product Link Web. Geo-Fence can be set up to send alerts for difference reasons. The sending of alerts is dependent on the subscription. A Geo-Fence set-up in Product Link Web is both inclusive and exclusive. Any time the equipment travels into, or out of a Geo-Fence, an alert can be sent.
