Caterpillar: Confidential Yellow
This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI1397" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI1397" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
Problem
Testing has identified a potentially hazardous condition with the radiator fan support bracket on certain 3500 generator set engines. A potential fracture point has been detected on the fan support bracket. Initial cracking of the fan support bracket will cause vibration in the fan assembly during operation. Continued operation may result in the failure of the support bracket which could lead to disengagement of the fan, damage to the radiator core and a potential for personal injury.

Rework Procedure
This is a two person job. Support of the radiator fan and positioning of fan drive support beam is required.
Reference attached drawing.
1.0 Ensure the engine has cooled sufficiently to prevent personal injury from contact with hot cooling tubes and the starting system is disabled by removing battery negative terminal or turning battery disconnect switch to the off position.1.1 Remove all guards from the fan drive shaft (11), pulley (10), and belts (2). The fan guards can remain in place.1.2 If equipped, remove the fuel cooler from the radiator crossbeam (4) without disconnecting the hoses and move and secure out of the way.1.3 Remove all grease lines from the fan drive (12 &14) and fan belt tightener (5), remove the fan belts, and fan belt tightener.1.4 IMPORTANT! Measure and record the distance between the centerline of the fan pulley (10) and the centerline of the crank pulley. This dimension must be duplicated with the new crossbeam. Accuracy of the measurement must be within 5mm.1.5 Remove the sellock (roll) pins from the fan drive shaft pillow blocks (15) and loosen, but do not remove, the 4 bolts holding the pillow block to the mounting plate.1.6. Remove the fan pulley and idler pulley (16).1.7 Take the weight of the fan (13), drive shaft (11), and bearing assembly (12 &14) off the crossbeam by lifting the drive shaft. Make
