Information:
Remove Camshafts
1. Disconnect the oil pressure sensing line (1) from the cylinder block (Industrial engine only).2. Remove the instrument panel mounting bolts, and lay the panel aside (Industrial engine only).3. Remove the valve cover mounting bolts (2) and valve cover (3).4. Rotate the crankshaft to top dead center compression stroke No. 1 piston as outlined in TESTING AND ADJUSTING. 5. Remove the eight short rear lifting eye retaining bolts (7). Remove the aftercooler air inlet elbow mounting bracket (4).6. Loosen the three long lifting eye retaining bolts (6), and slide the bolts and lifting eye (5) toward the rear of engine as far as possible. 7. Install a 3/8"-16NC x 1-1/2 in. bolt (8) and washer in the end of camshaft driveshaft (9).8. Using a bar, pry the camshaft driveshaft toward rear of engine until driveshaft clears camshaft.
In order to avoid piston and valve interference, do not attempt to rotate crankshaft with camshafts installed and camshaft driveshaft removed.
9. Remove the inner fuel injection lines (11).10. Remove the camshaft bearing block retaining bolts (10) and locks.11. Carefully separate the bearing blocks from their locating dowels.12. Attach a hoist and remove the camshafts-weight 100 lb. (45,3 kg).Install Camshafts
1. Adjust all the camshaft followers in cylinder head to provide maximum valve clearance. 2. Align the camshaft phasing gear timing marks (1) as shown. 3. Attach a hoist and position the camshafts on cylinder head. Make sure bearing blocks (2) are seated properly on locating dowels.
Never attempt to install camshafts if the No. 1 piston is not at top dead center compression stroke. Damage to the engine may result if crankshaft is improperly positioned.
4. Install the inner fuel injection lines. Tighten retaining nuts to 30 5 lb. ft. (4,1 0,7 mkg).5. Position the camshaft driveshaft in camshaft with the blind spline on top.6. Position rear lifting eye, and install and tighten lifting eye retaining bolts.7. Install aftercooler air inlet elbow mounting bracket.8. Adjust the inlet valve clearance to .018 in. (0,46 mm) and the exhaust valve clearance to .030 in. (0,76 mm).9. Install the valve cover and mounting bolts.10. Position instrument panel, and install mounting bolts, (Industrial engine only).11. Connect the oil pressure sensing line to the cylinder block, (Industrial engine only).
