Remove the rear axle housing and differential. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rear Axle Housing and Differential - Remove".
Remove the axle shafts. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle Shaft - Remove". Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before you begin the removal procedure, the exterior of the components should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Place the rear axle housing and differential assembly on a suitable stand. Remove four bolts (1), cover (2) and the shims from the rear axle housing.

Install Tooling (C) and remove thrust pin (3). Remove the O-ring seal from thrust pin (3).

Disconnect two tube assemblies (4) and two hose assemblies (5).

Disconnect two tube assemblies (6) and two hose assemblies (7).

Remove four tube assemblies (4) and (6) from manifold (10).
Remove two bolts (9) and manifold (10) from bracket (8).
Remove hose assemblies (5) and (7) from bracket (8).
Illustration 6 g01124036Note: Bolts (11) can not be reused. Always install new bolts.
Replace two bolts (11) with Tooling (A). Remove the remaining 43 bolts (11) and bracket (8).
Remove yoke (12).

Install two bolts (11) as forcing bolts. Tighten two bolts (11) to remove differential and bevel gear (13).

Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to differential and bevel gear (13). The weight of differential and bevel gear (13) is approximately 600 kg (1323 lb).
Remove Tooling (A). Remove differential and bevel gear (13).

Remove O-ring seal (14) from differential and bevel gear (13).
