The base is selected based on the pin size and type:
Pins with a flat face and small center indent use the Magnetic Centering Base.
Pins with threaded holes use the appropriate sized Threaded Centering Bushing.Regardless of the base used the Center Pin can be inserted into the base and the measurement device hooked to the flat edge. These devices securely fix the measuring tape to the center of the pin axis and allow the measuring tape to be pulled taught to minimize any sagging in the tape.Note: The Center Pin has a loop that can be used to help retain a measurement tape to the Center Pin.Note: The Boom pin on a Grade Control Hydraulic Excavator is covered by the rotary position sensor that does not allow these parts to be affixed to the Boom pin.
