Batteries discharge highly explosive hydrogen gas and can explode and shower you with sulfuric acid if a spark is created near the battery. Batteries can also cause burn injuries when a ring or watch completes a circuit between the positive battery post and the frame of the machine. To prevent injuries always remove all rings and watches and wear safety glasses while work is done on or near the batteries. Use extra caution not to cause sparks near the battery. Disconnect the ground cable first and connect it last.
1. Lockout the electrical system of the machine with the key that is located behind the left side engine compartment door. 2. Remove bolts (1) and washers from cover (2). Remove cover (2) from the battery box. 3. Loosen bolt (3) that holds the negative terminal to the battery, and remove the terminal. Repeat this step to remove the positive terminal.4. Remove nuts (4) and washers that secure hold down (5) to the rods. Remove hold down (5) from the rods and the battery.5. Use two people, or a lifting sling and a hoist to remove the battery from the battery box. The weight of the battery is 27 Kg (60 lb).6. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 in order to remove the remaining battery.Install Batteries
1. Use two people, or a lifting sling and a hoist to position the battery in the battery box. 2. Position hold down (5) on the rods and the battery. Install nuts (4) and washers that secure hold down (5) to the rods. Tighten nuts (4) to a torque of 9.8 1 N m (7 1 lb ft).3. Install the positive terminal to the battery. Install the negative terminal to the battery. Tighten the terminal bolts to a torque of 7.2 1.4 N m (5 1 lb ft). Install the rubber boots over the terminals. 4. Position cover (2) over the battery box. Install bolts (1) and washers in order to secure the cover to the battery box.
