START BY:a. remove front tires and rims 1. Drain the wheel assembly housing. Remove cover (1). Remove the O-ring seal from the cover. 2. Fasten tooling (A) to the wheel and brake assembly as shown.3. Remove bolts (2), and remove retainer plate (3).4. Remove outer bearing cone (4). 5. Remove wheel and brake assembly (5). Weight is 563 kg (1250 lb.). 6. Remove Duo-Cone seal (6) and the rubber toric seal. 7. Remove bearing cups (7) from each end of the wheel assembly. 8. Remove Duo-Cone seal (8) and the rubber toric seal from the retainer. 9. Remove bearing cone (9) and retainer (10) from the wheel spindle. 10. Remove O-ring seal (11) from the retainer.Install Front Wheel Bearings And Duo-Cone Seals
1. Install a new O-ring seal (1) on the retainer. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the O-ring seal. 2. Install retainer (3) and bearing cone (2) on the wheel spindle. 3. Make sure the rubber toric rings and all surfaces that make contact with them are clean and dry at assembly. Put a small amount of clean oil on the surfaces of the metal seals that make contact with each other.4. Use tool (A) to install the Duo-Cone seal assembly in the retainer. See Duo-Cone Floating Seals. 5. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (4). Install bearing cups (4) in each end of the wheel assembly. 6. Install the Duo-Cone seal assembly in the retainer on the wheel assembly with tool (A). See Step 3. 7. Install tooling (B) and a hoist on the wheel and brake assembly, and put it in position on the axle.8. Install bearing cone (5). 9. Make an adjustment to the front wheel bearings as follows:a. Install retainer (7) without the shims with three bolts (6) that are evenly spaced.b. Turn the wheel slowly, and tighten bolts (6) evenly to a torque of 70 N m (50 lb.ft.).c. Measure the distance to the end of the spindle through the two threaded holes in retainer (7). Find the average of these measurements.d. Subtract the thickness of the retainer from the average distance found in Step c. The distance found plus 0.25 mm (.010 in.) is the correct thickness of shims to be used between the retainer and the end of the spindle. 10. Install the shim pack that was found in Step 9. Install retainer (7) and bolts (6). Turn the wheel assembly slowly, and tighten bolts (6) evenly to a torque of 250 14 N m (185 10 lb.ft.).11. Inspect and make a replacement of O-ring seal (8) if necessary. Install cover (9) on the wheel assembly.12. Fill the wheel assembly housing with oil to the correct level.
