Information:

Flash fire may result in personal injury, if crankcase covers are removed within fifteen minutes after emergency shut down. Do not restart engine until cause for shutdown has been corrected.
Ensure that any system that provides external support to the engine is secured after the engine is stopped.
Emergency stop and/or air inlet shutoff testing must be performed at 0% (minimum possible) engine load. Actuating air inlet shutoffs on a loaded engine will cause accelerated turbocharger wear. If an emergency stop is performed on an engine while operating at greater than 30% load, disassemble and inspect the turbocharger thrust bearings before returning the engine to service. For more information, refer to the Reuse and Salvage Guidelines, SEBF8018.
Emergency Stop Button
Note: An emergency stop button is on the junction box and on the control panel that is shipped with the engine. The OEM of the vessel is responsible for any additional controls for emergency stopping.

Typical emergency stop button
The emergency stop button is in the OUT position for normal engine operation. For an emergency stop, press the emergency stop button. This procedure shuts off the fuel to the engine.Note: Some marine engines are equipped with an emergency stop button that must be pulled to stop the engine.
Do not start the engine until the problem necessitating the emergency stop has been located and corrected.
The engine control switch, the emergency stop button, and the air shutoff must be reset before the engine can be restarted. Reset the engine control switch before resetting the emergency stop button. To reset the engine control switch, turn the switch to the "OFF/RESET" position. To reset the emergency stop button, turn the button clockwise. The spring-loaded button will return to the OUT position. The button may also be pulled to the OUT position.Air Shutoff
The air shutoff is activated by oil pressure when energy to a solenoid is interrupted. The air shutoff uses a plate that rotates on a shaft to shut off inlet air to the aftercooler. The engine stops because of the restricted air supply to the combustion chamber. The air shutoff will actuate for the following conditions:
The emergency stop button is pressed.
The air shutoff is activated.
An over-speed shutdown occurs.
The electronic control module loses power. To reset the air shutoff on earlier models, turn the reset knob to the "OPEN" position. To reset the air shutoff on later models, turn the hex until the indicator is at the "OPEN" position.Ensure that the air shutoff is reset before starting the engine. Ensure that the cause of the emergency stop is repaired before starting the engine.
