Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may be harmful to your health. Always start and operate the engine in a well-ventilated area and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
Machine Walk-Around Inspection
For maximum service life of the machine, make a thorough walk-around inspection before mounting the machine to start the engine.Look around and under the machine for such items as loose bolts, trash build up, oil or coolant leaks, broken or worn parts. Inspect the condition of the bucket and the hydraulic components.Refer to Walk-Around Inspection in the Maintenance Section for detailed walk-around inspection information.Machine Pre-Start Checks
1. The backhoe machine must be on level ground with the stick cylinder fully extended, the bucket flat on the ground and the engine stopped. The front shovel equipped machine must be level, with the stick cylinder fully extended, the bucket flat on the ground and the engine stopped. 2. Open the front access door on the right side. The hydraulic oil must be cold. Check the oil level. Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark on the sight gauge. 3. Open the access cover. Remove the radiator cap. Maintain the coolant level to within 1 cm (.5 in) of the bottom of the fill pipe. Install the cap and close the access cover. 4. Check the fuel level on the gauge. The fuel tank should be full at the beginning of a shift. 5. The fuel tank drain valve is located under the fuel tank. Open the valve and allow moisture to drain. Close the valve. 6. Open the center access door on the rear of the machine. Check the engine oil level. The level should be in the SAFE STARTING RANGE on the ENGINE STOPPED side of the dipstick. Close the access door.Test the warning and indicator lights as follows:
7. With the engine stopped, turn on the disconnect switch. The malfunction warning flasher should flash. Move the system test switch to the test position. The hydraulic filter and hydraulic oil level indicator lights should go on.Refer to the Every 10 Service Hours or Daily in the Maintenance Section for more detailed information.
