Information:
2. Use starting fluid while cranking the engine. Push the button located below the start switch, at two second intervals only. A metered amount of starting fluid (ether) is released each time the button is pushed.3. Use additional starting fluid every two seconds until the engine starts.4. Release the start switch when the engine starts. Continue to inject ether until the engine runs smoothly. For starting below -18°C (0°F), use additional starting aids. A coolant heater, fuel heater or an external battery source may be required. For starting below -23°C (-10°F), special lubricants are required. Consult your Caterpillar dealer, or refer to the Cold Weather Recommendations Operation and Maintenance Guide, Form SEBU5898.Scraper Engine
Above 0°C (32°F)
1. Turn the scraper disconnect switch ON.
Never turn the disconnect switch OFF when the engine is running.
2. Move the scraper engine governor control to just past the detent. 3. Push in and turn the scraper start switch to START. Release the switch when the engine starts.
After every 30 seconds of cranking, allow 2 minutes for the starting motor to cool.
4. If the engine oil pressure gauge (1) doesn't register within 10 seconds or if the coolant flow light (2) does not go off when the engine starts, move the governor control lever up to the stopped detent position. Have corrections made.5. Keep the engine at low idle until the systems are warm.6. Watch all gauges and indicators for correct readings before moving the machine.Below 0°C (32°F)
1. Follow the steps under "Above 0°C (32°F)."
If the engine does not start after two attempts, use starting fluid. This will prevent excessive battery drain and starting motor overheating.Use starting fluid (ether) only while cranking the engine.Use sparingly, excessive ether can cause piston and ring damage.Ether is to be used for cold weather starting purposes only.Keep batteries charged to a corrected specific gravity of 1.250 or above. Otherwise, an external electrical source may be required.

Batteries give off flammable fumes that can explode.Do not smoke when observing the battery electrolyte levels.Electrolyte is an acid and can cause personal injury if it contacts skin or eyes.Always wear protective glasses when working with batteries.
When using an external electrical source to start an engine, turn the disconnect switch to OFF and remove the key before attaching booster cables. This machine has a 24 volt starting system. Use only an equal voltage for boost starting. Use of
