Escaping air or fluid under pressure, even a pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue causing serious injury, and possible death.If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.
Accumulated grease and oil on a work tool is a fire hazard.Remove debris with steam cleaning or high pressure water at any time a significant quantity of oil is spilled on the work tool.
Note: If major repairs to the work tool are required, consult your Caterpillar dealer.
For the maximum service life of the work tool, make a thorough daily inspection before you mount the machine and before you start the engine.
Inspect the work tool for the following conditions: loose bolts, worn cutter, worn teeth, oil leaks, worn parts and broken parts. Inspect the work tool for missing parts. Check the overall condition of the work tool. Check the overall condition of the hydraulic system.
Inspect the condition of the hydraulic lines and the hydraulic fittings.
Inspect the cutting jaw. Remove scrap and debris from the jaw.
Inspect the welds, the pins, and the bores for damage. If the components are damaged, consult your Caterpillar dealer.
Perform all repairs before the work tool is put into service.
Check the hydraulic oil. Maintain the oil to the proper level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the host machine.
Visually inspect the bracket bolts. If any bracket bolts are damaged or missing, replace all the bracket bolts.
