3.1 Introduction
This chapter describes how the handling and storing of the products of L+S are safely prepared and carried through.3.2 Notes on Handling and Storing
When handling the equipment make sure the carrying capacity of the crane is adequate.* Use exclusively approved handling equipment.* Carefully attach the gearbox to the crane hook, using the lifting points provided.
When lifting the gearboxes make sure that the handling elements do not cause damage to attachment parts.* Store the gearboxes in dry and moderately heated rooms only.* Store the gearboxes only in their intended mounting position.* Make sure that set down gearboxes rest immovably.
L+S will dispose of any packing material supplied with the gearboxes when this is returned to the Factory free of charge.3.3 Packing
Up to dimensions of 1200 x 1200 mm the gearboxes will be welded with foil on a pallet.For oversea transports seaworthy packed wooden cases respectively closed containers are used.3.4 Preservation
The Gearboxes supplied by L+S are not filled with oil. The interior of the gearboxes has been protected with Aral Degol LS SAE 40 / 50 or with Shell S. 7294 SAE 40 / 50.The surfaces of external flanges, ends of shafts and flange attachment faces are preserved with TECTYL 502 C.3.4.1 Storage in Ventilated Rooms
In ventilated localities the gearboxes are protected against corrosion up to 24 month after delivery ex works.If the packing material is removed the outer preservation must be checked and -if necessary- skillfully renewed.3.4.2 Storage Outdoors
If the gearboxes are stored outdoors it must be made safe that no splash water can enter the gearbox or can do any harm to the outer preservation (Gearboxes canvas covered or splash proofed by a movable hood).In such cases the inner and outer preservation has to be checked every 6 months and -if necessary- to be renewed. Under this condition the protection against corrosion will last max. 24 months after delivery ex works.3.4.3 Storage in Air-conditioned Rooms
A protection against corrosion for max. 36 months is only possible, if the storage is done in airconditioned localities. Condensation and high atmospheric humidity must be avoided.If the packing material will be removed all bare parts have to be checked and the preservation with TECTL 502 C has to be renewed.3.4.4 Storage of part-closed Gearboxes
Gearboxes or gearbox orifices that are protected/closed off only by oil paper and a wooden cover or by an oil resistant plastic cover, must exclusively be stored in enclosed rooms for a maximum period of 3 months.3.4.5 Long-Term Preservation
In the event the gearboxes are stored for a period exceeding 36 months, they must receive a special preservation treatment. Furthermore various special directions have to be executed.In such cases the gearboxes have to undergo a complete inspection and a new test run.For details in this respect please contact our Service Department.
