Connections of the 5 VDC Sensor Power Supply Circuits
This diagnostic code is recorded when the Transmission ECM reads the voltage of the 5 VDC sensor power supply as higher than normal.Possible causes for this diagnostic code are listed:
The sensor power supply circuit has shorted to another power supply source.
The Transmission ECM might have failed but that is unlikely.System Response:
The lockup clutch is disabled.
Operator cannot put transmission into gear.
Calibrations will not function.Test Step 1. CHECK THE 5 VDC SENSOR POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE AT THE ECM
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
DO NOT disconnect the machine harnesses from the Transmission ECM. At the ECM, use a multimeter and the 7X-1710 "spoon" type multimeter probes to measure the voltage of the 5VDC power supply circuit. At the J1 harness connector, insert the positive multimeter probe along the supply positive contact J1-11 (wire T997-OR(Orange)). Insert the negative multimeter probe along the supply return contact J1-21 (wire T993-BR(Brown)).Expected Result:The voltage is 5.0 0.5 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage is 5.0 or 0.5 VDC. The sensor power supply voltage is correct.Repair: Verify that the diagnostic code is still present. If the diagnostic code is still present, proceed to Test Step 3
NOT OK - Voltage is greater than 5.0 0.5 VDC. The sensor power supply voltage is NOT correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK FOR A SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE MACHINE HARNESS
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 machine harness from the Transmission ECM.
At the harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from contact J1-11 (wire T997-OR(Orange)). to all the other contacts used in the J1 harness connector. Measure next from contact J1-21 to all the other contacts used in the J2 harness connector.Expected Result:The resistance readings are all greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - All the resistance readings are greater than 5000 ohms. The voltage supply circuits are correct.Repair: Is unlikely that the Transmission ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Also, recheck if the diagnostic code is active. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, contact your Dealership Technical Communicator for possible consultation with Caterpillar®.If the Transmission ECM needs to be replaced, consult Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - One or more of the resistance readings are less than 5000 ohms. The harness has failed.Repair: There is a short circuit in the machine harness. The short circuit is between the 5 VDC power supply contact J1-11 (wire T997-OR(Orange)) and the circuit with the lowest resistance reading. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS
Inspect the harness connectors and clean all the contacts of the machine harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Operate the machine.
Check the status of the CID
