Right Main Glow Plug RelayThis diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the voltage of the right main glow plug relay as above normal (short to +battery). The nominal coil resistance of the relay is approximately 360 ohms. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are:
The relay coil circuit is shorted to + battery.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.System Response:The results of this diagnostic code are:
The burner diagnostic lamp that is located beneath the screed walkway will be ON.
The ECM will not initiate a burner ignition cycle for the right main burner when this diagnostic code is active.
The right main glow plug relay will be energized all of the time.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code CID 940 FMI F03 for the relay is on hold and that the red diagnostic indicator on the conveyor ECM display is ON.Test Step 1. Check Relay Circuit For Short To + Battery
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the relay from the machine harness mounting socket.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector, measure the resistance from the energize signal circuit at ECM contact J1-12 (wire P811-OR) to all other possible sources of + battery. The possible sources of positive voltage are ECM contacts J1-1, J1-4, J1-6, J1-8, J1-10, J1-11, J1-12, J1-17, J1-18, J1-40, J2-2, J2-7, J2-8, J2-12, J2-13 and J2-37.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement should be greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - One or more resistance measurements is less than 5000 ohms.Repair: There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between the energize signal circuit at ECM contact J1-12 (wire P811-OR) and the circuit with the low resistance measurement. Repair or replace the machine harness. Stop.Test Step 2. Check To See If Diagnostic Code Remains
Clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect the relay and all harness connectors.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Enter burner service mode 3 on the conveyor ECM three digit display. Clear all inactive diagnostic codes.
Operate the machine.
Check to see if the CID 940 FMI F03 diagnostic code for the relay is active (conveyor diagnostic code indicator ON).Expected Result:The CID 940 FMI F03 diagnostic code for the relay is not active. Results:
OK - The CID 940 FMI F03 diagnostic code for the relay is not active. The machine harness and the ECM are operating properly.Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation. Stop.
NOT OK - The CID 940 FMI F03 diagnostic code for the relay is still active.Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Refer to the Electrical System Schematic for this machine and check all involved wiring harness connectors and wiring. Ensure that the connector contacts are clean and in good condition. Ensure that all machine
