Description of Change: New graphite gaskets are now available to replace steel gaskets on exhaust sleeves.Adaptable To: Sleeves from 138-6756 Exhaust Sleeve Assembly or 164-9364 Exhaust Sleeve Assembly can be reused. Remove the steel gaskets from the sleeves with a pair of pliers or similar tool. Discard the steel gaskets. Damaged sleeves should be discarded. Only those sleeves that are damaged should be replaced. (Refer to Note 1 for further information). Undamaged sleeves may be reused. Assemble sleeves and new graphite gaskets as follows: (Refer to Note 2 for further information).

Install one 138-4611 Exhaust Gasket (1) between the cylinder head and the exhaust sleeve flange (2) on each engine cylinder head port.

Install the exhaust sleeve flange (2) into each cylinder head port.

(3) 109-5313 Gasket (4) Spacer (5) Nut
Install one 109-5313 Gasket (3) between the exhaust sleeve flange (2) and the exhaust manifold on each cylinder head port.
Install the exhaust manifold.
Install the spacers (4). (Refer to note 3 for further information).
Install the nuts (5). Refer to Specifications for the torque of the nuts.Note: 1: If the sleeve can not be reused, replace the sleeve with 188-7775 Exhaust Sleeve Assembly for 3406E, C-15 and C-16. Replace the sleeve with 188-7774 Exhaust Sleeve Assembly for 3406C.Note: 2: Do not mix steel and graphite gaskets. All six sleeve assemblies must be converted to graphite gaskets.Note: 3: Do not reinstall exhaust stud washers. The exhaust stud washers should be discarded because of the increased thickness of the graphite gaskets.
