Make sure that all of the parts of the hydraulic track adjuster are clean and free of dirt and debris prior to assembly. Check the condition of O-ring seals (7) and backup rings (8). If any of the components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Use Tooling (A) to fill all of the passages in the piston. Make sure that air is not trapped in the passages in the piston.

Install relief valve (1). Do not tighten relief valve (1) .
Install fill valve (2) and tighten fill valve (2) snugly.
Install stopper plate assembly (3) and bolts (6) which secure stopper plate assembly (3) .Note: Use Tooling (A) in order to completely fill the seal grooves in piston (5). The grease will displace air when O-rings (7) and backup rings (8) are installed.Note: When piston (5) is installed in cylinder (4), make sure that piston (5) is kept square with cylinder (4) in order to prevent possible damage to backup rings (8) and O-ring seals (7) .
Install O-ring seals (7) and backup rings (8) on piston (5). Do not interchange the position of backup rings (8) and O-ring seals (7).
Put a small amount of Tooling (A) on the sliding surface of piston (5). Make sure that the grease covers backup rings (8) and O-ring seals (7). Also, put grease in the lower end of cylinder (4). This will prevent air from getting into cylinder (4) during installation of piston (5). Install piston (5) into cylinder (4). If necessary, use a soft hammer in order to install piston (5) into cylinder (4).
Center piston (5) into cylinder (4). Put a small amount of Tooling (A) on the inside diameter of lip seal (9). Install seal (9) into cylinder (4). Install the seal even with the outside surface of cylinder (4). Do not install lip seal (9) more than 0.5 mm (0.02 inch) below the outside surface of cylinder (4) .
Make sure that grease is expelled from the vent hole for relief valve (1). Tighten relief valve (1) and fill valve (2) to a torque of 34 5 N m (25 5 lb ft).
Add approximately 5 cc (0.3 in3) of Tooling (A) through fill valve (2). Apply a force to piston (5) and open fill valve (2) in order to purge all the air from the hydraulic track adjuster.End By: Install the hydraulic track adjuster.
