Information:
When the Cat Telematics System develops a "Satellite Radio Will Not Commmunicate"" situation, certain steps can be taken before traveling to the customer site. Follow the steps from the "Off-Site Diagnostics" in order to help determine the fault before traveling to the customer site.Off-Site Diagnostics
Note: Some steps of the "Off-Site Diagnostics" sections are dependent on the customer being on site.
Verify with the customer that the satellite radio has been installed and registered.
If the radio is installed and not registered, refer to "How to Register Your Cat Telematics".
If the radio is installed and registered refer to Step 2.
Verify if the satellite has ever transmitted data to the user interface.
Choose "Radio Information Log" in the user interface. The "Radio Information Log" will show a list of the radios detected by the Cat Telematics system each time the system is powered up. Check the recent history to determine if the satellite radio is no longer being detected by Cat Telematics.
If the "Radio Information Log" shows that the satellite radio is no longer being detected by the Cat Telematics unit at start-up, replace the satellite radio.
If the "Radio Information Log" shows that the satellite radio is being detected by the Cat Telematics unit at start-up, proceed to Step 4.
Request the location of the machine. With the customer at the location of the asset, the following questions may or may not be answered. Ask the customer if the asset is powered ON, and located where the radios have clear line of sight to the sky.
If the asset was inside of a building, under/next to a large obstacle, or has the battery power OFF, have the customer do the following:
Turn the key power ON if the power was OFF.
Attempt to move the asset to a more open location with a clear line of sight to the sky. With the asset in a new location and the correct conditions are met, refer to Step 5.
Perform the "Remote Connectivity Test" located in the user interface under "Service Tools".
If the "Remote Connectivity Test" is successful, then return the Cat Telematics system to service.
If the "Remote Connectivity Test" is not successful over the satellite radio, proceed to "On-Site Diagnostics".On-Site Diagnostics
Note: Before any on-site diagnostics are performed all diagnostic procedures from the "Off-Site Diagnostics" section should have been previously performed.
Connect the 317-7484 Communication Adapter Gp to the asset and open CAT ET .
Service tool does not connect. Refer to "Electronic Service Tool Does Not Communicate".
Service tool connects. Proceed to Step 2.
Check for any active or logged diagnostic codes.eya
If diagnostic codes are present, proceed to the diagnostic information for that specific code.
If diagnostic codes are not present, proceed to Step 3.
Verify that the satellite radio is in the proper location and has a clear line of site to the sky. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS1234 for proper placement of the satellite radio. Perform a "Local Connectivity Test".
If the "Local Connectivity Test" is successful, return the asset to service.
If the "Local Connectivity Test" is not successful, proceed to Step 4.
Check the wiring
