Schematic for the Position Sensor (Left Brake Pedal)This diagnostic code is recorded when the power train ECM reads the voltage of the position sensor as being below normal. The position sensor is a PWM sensor. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The sensor has failed.
The signal circuit in the harness is shorted to ground.
The power train ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code is active and that the diagnostic code indicator is active.
Check The Sensor.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position .
Ensure that CID 1327 FMI 04 is still active.
Disconnect the position sensor from the harness.Expected Result: The diagnostic code remains active. Results:
YES - The position sensor is not faulty. The harness or the power train ECM may be at fault. Proceed to Step 2.
NO - The harness and the power train ECM are operating properly. Replace the position sensor. After the sensor has been replaced, refer to the Testing and Adjusting, "Position Sensor (Left Brake Pedal) - Calibrate" for the machine that is being serviced.
Check The Signal Circuit For A Short To Ground.
The sensor remains disconnected from the harness.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the harness from the power train ECM.
At the harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance between the signal contact C (wire G746-WH) and frame ground.Expected Result: The resistance is greater than 5000 Ohms.Result:
YES - The resistance is greater than 5000 Ohms. Proceed to Step 3.
NO - The resistance is less than 5000 Ohms. The harness has failed. There is a short between ground and the signal circuit in the harness. Repair the harness or replace the harness.
Check, If The Diagnostic Code Remains.
Clean the contacts for the harness connectors.
Reconnect all the harness connectors.
Operate the machine.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code indicator.Expected Result: The diagnostic code indicator is no longer active.Result:
Yes - The diagnostic code is no longer active. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time. The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and then reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.
NO - The diagnostic code indicator is active. It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this test procedure and perform the test procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, then replace the power train ECM. For information about replacing the power train ECM, refer to the Testing And Adjusting, " Electronic Control Module (Power Train) - Replace" for the machine that is being serviced.
