Information:
Coolant System
Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.
To relieve pressure from the coolant system, turn off the engine. Allow the cooling system pressure cap to cool. Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure.Fuel System
Low-Pressure Fuel Lines
To relieve pressure from a low-pressure fuel system, turn off the engine. Refer to the Application and Installation Guide for information on relieving pressure from a low-pressure fuel system.High-Pressure Fuel Lines
Contact with high pressure fuel may cause fluid penetration and burn hazards. High pressure fuel spray may cause a fire hazard. Failure to follow these inspection, maintenance and service instructions may cause personal injury or death.
Note: Fuel system service is to be performed by a trained service technician only.Note: Following repairs to the high-pressure fuel system, accumulator plugs on applicable cylinders should be removed. Complete a Fuel System Functional Test (FSFT) and reinstall the accumulator plugs.
The high-pressure fuel lines are constantly charged with high pressure.
The high-pressure fuel can be held in the fuel lines for an extended length of time after the engine has stopped.
The internal pressures of the high-pressure fuel lines are higher than other types of fuel system. Before servicing the common rail fuel system, the fuel that is under high pressure must be released. Depending on conditions, the fuel system may hold high rail pressure for an extended length of time.To release pressure in the fuel rail, perform the following steps:
Illustration 1 g06037954
Using hand tools only, loosen the end plug one full turn on one of the last two accumulators on the fuel rail. The fuel pressure will drop. The high-pressure fuel escapes into the double wall fuel line and returns to the high-pressure fuel junction block.
Verify the "Fuel Rail Pressure" in Cat ET is between 0 and 2 MPa (290 psi).
After the pressure has been released, the end plug should be tightened to 60 N m (44 lb ft).Engine Oil
