PROBLEM
The vibration damper seals may leak over time on certain C175-16 Locomotive Engines. If not replaced the seals will leak. If the existing seals leak it can/will cause oil to be dispersed in the engine room.

ACTION REQUIRED
This service letter is to support the first damper seal replacement at the updated 12,000 hour interval as stated in the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU9204.
Replace the damper seals. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU9204, "Crankshaft Vibration Damper seals - Replace" and the Maintenance Interval Schedule for damper seals replacement.
Install new washers with the damper bolts. Refer to Engine News, SEBD9993, "Improved Fastener Groups Are Used on the Vibration Damper of Certain C175 Commercial Engines", for installation instructions.
