Typical exampleThe engine injection timing is set during engine manufacture by the use of different shims (1) between the fuel injection pump (3) and the engine block. Shim thickness is altered to change fuel injection timing and ensures that the engine is emissions-compliant. An example of a beaded shim (2) is shown in illustration 1.If an injection pump is removed in service, record the thickness of each shim and the number of shims for reassembly. The shim must be measured on the shim not on the beaded part. Replace the old shims with new shims of the same thickness. Old shims must not be reused.Note: For engines that have three shims, ensure that two beaded and one non beaded shims are used. Ensure that the beaded faces of the beaded shims are located against the face of the fuel injection pump and the face of the cylinder block. Ensure that the non beaded shim is installed between the two beaded shims.Note: For engines that have two shims, ensure that two beaded shims are used. Ensure that the beaded faces of the beaded shims are located against the face of the fuel injection pump and the face of the cylinder block.On 3024C, 3024CT and C2.2 engines, select the correct combination of shims from table 1.
