Some connecting rod bearings and main bearings that were electroplated in 2009 have the same date codes as bearings that were previously identified as being suspect. This situation has caused confusion and the return of good bearings from the field.The supplier has plated bearings in 2009 that were originally formed and stamped in 2008.The connecting rod and main bearings are manufactured in a two-step process:
The steel back and the aluminum base are formed and the bearing is stamped with the 5XXXX forming code. An example of the forming code is 5UUND.
The bearing is plated with the lead tin overlay and the month of the plating is recorded by the month code. Month codes include "UC", "UB", and "UD".Note: The month code refers to the month that the plating was applied, not the month of the forming.

A handwritten "2009" will be present on the back of the bearing. Refer to Illustration 2.
